66-yr-old cyclist Hilary Lee killed in collision with lorry driver in High Barnet

Hilary Lee was killed while cycling on Barnet High Street. She was hit by a lorry at around 1500, dying shortly thereafter.

The driver of the lorry has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

The crash happened outside St John the Baptist church at the junction with Wood Street.

Lorry traffic on Barnet High Street has increased by 60% since 2000 – from 315 lorries per day to 507 in 2011. Over the same period cycle traffic has barely increased.
