Andrew McNicoll killed on Lanark Road, Edinburgh - man arrested and charged

A man has been detained by police in connection with the death of a cyclist who crashed into a parked car in Edinburgh.

The 43-year-old was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary following the incident on Lanark Road, near Dovecot Grove, at about 08:00. He later died.

The road has been closed while accident investigators work at the scene.

A police spokesman said the man had been cycling on the north carriageway of the road at the time of the crash.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: “At this time inquiries are at an early stage. However, it is known that the cyclist collided with a parked car.

“Further inquiries are underway in regard to the involvement of other vehicles, and a man has been detained for questioning by police in regard to the incident.

“We would urge anyone who was in the area of Lanark Road on Thursday morning, who saw what happened, to contact police as a matter of urgency.

“In particular, we want to speak to anyone who noticed an articulated lorry with a white cab and a red flat-bed trailer being driven in the area at the time.”

A 53-year old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death and is due to appear in court at a later date.
