CTC member Dr Mark Brummell killed in crash with car the New Forest

Incident date:
Mon, 28 May 2012

Mark Brummell, 53, was killed at 1815 on the 28th May while riding along Beaulieu Road in the New Forest.

He was hit by a car, the driver of which – a 59-year-old man – has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

CTC's view:

Mark Brummell was also a member of the Southampton Cycling Campaign, a representative of which said this to the local paper:

“This is devastating news for the Southampton Cycling Campaign of which Mark Brummell was such a prominent member, and a good friend to many of us, especially my mother, for whom he beautifully restored a vintage bicycle.

Mark was a dedicated bicycle mechanic, and he had an encyclopedic knowledge of bicycle mechanics, and was enthusiastic and generous in sharing this knowledge with others who wanted to develop their own skills.

He was also a very experienced cyclist, and used to busy roads, which makes it even harder to accept that his life should have ended in this way.

This is a terrible loss. Rest in peace Mark.”
