Cyclist dies after collision with taxi driver in West Bromwich

Incident date:
Tue, 27 Nov 2012

The man, aged 22, was left fighting for his life following the crash involving a Crystal Cars Ltd taxi in New Swan Lane last week. Police have now confirmed he has died.

The drivers of a Kwik Fit van and a Honda car rushed to help the cyclist after the crash just after 8.30am last Tuesday.

Emergency services arrived and the man was airlifted to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital at 9.15am.

Witnesses at the time described seeing the man “flung into the air” before landing near the kerb. Scraps of police tape where the area was cordoned off still remain.

West Midlands Police said in a statement: “The 22-year-old man suffered serious injuries in the collision, and despite the best efforts of hospital staff, he passed away.”

No charge has been mentioned.
