Teenager jailed for 12 months after running over and killing mother

Incident date:
Thu, 12 Jul 2012

Lewis Foster, 19, was convicted of death by careless driving after he reversed over his mother, pinned her under the wheels of his car and caused multiple fatal injuries.

The landscape gardener was said to be in an emotional state at the time and had been drinking with his boss in another location prior to the incident.

Judge David Ticehurst said Mr Foster had been ‘reckless’ and described the case as ‘tragic’.

‘Had you spent a moment or two thinking about the situation, had you not been drunk, had you not been in temper, you would not have been here (at court),’ he said.

The teenager reportedly began revving his car and when his mum came out to ask him to stop he said he had accidentally stepped on the clutch.

His vehicle then backed up over his mother and pinned her underneath the wheels.

She died of multiple injuries the next day.

Mr Foster was also banned from driving for four years.
